Socializing Your Samoyed To Get Along With The World
Socialization is the process of getting the dog accustomed to the world around it. It begins from the Samoyed’s birth, with the mother; the first point of contact for the Samoyed puppy. Then, slowly, this responsibility falls to the breeder, who now has to teach the Samoyed puppy the basics of how to behave, where not to trespass and what not to do; in its first few weeks of life. When the dog owner brings the Samoyed home, it becomes their responsibility to continue this socializing process.
The new pet Samoyed must immediately be introduced to every member of the dog owner’s family and old pets. It must also be allowed to interact with its own corner of world; which may be a crate or a doggie bed. Next, the Samoyed dog must be taught how to respond to new situations, or it might respond negatively. For instance, some puppies get along with children just fine but when they enter adolescence (around 6 months to 3 years) or adulthood, they panic at the sight of children. In the same vein, some Samoyed dogs react negatively to the elderly, a particular gender, or people with certain physical features and articles of clothing. Some dogs may even cower or bark incessantly in the presence of visitors, other pets, or at the sound of thunder.
While there is no sure-fire way to stop the Samoyed dog from feeling uneasy or anxious in triggering situations, it can be trained to not attack, cower or bark incessantly. It is the dog owner’s responsibility to make sure the Samoyed dog adjusts well in its new home, and with the rest of the world; which is why socializing must be done correctly. Also, whenever any anti-social behavior is detected, the Samoyed must immediately begin to receive training on how to curb it. That is the only way the dog can live a happy and stress-free life.
